There’s something about fall in Montana that never gets old—especially just outside of Belgrade, where the open fields stretch wide and the skies seem to go on forever. This year’s fall mini sessions saw some familiar faces, new families, and lots of little personalities that made each session uniquely fun.
And yes… all three session days presented with those classic gray, overcast skies.
If you’ve ever worried about cloudy weather on photo day, let me reassure you—this is actually some of the best light we can get. The clouds create a soft, even glow that keeps colors rich and true, while letting the focus stay exactly where it should be: on your family and your connection.
Mini session days are always a little bit of a whirlwind—in the best way. With multiple families back-to-back, the energy stays high and the pace keeps everyone engaged. And honestly, that works perfectly for young kids. There’s no time to overthink, no pressure to sit still for long. We lean into movement, play, and letting kids just be themselves.
Some little ones jumped right in, ready to explore and run through the grass. Others took a few minutes to warm up, holding close to mom or dad before their personalities started to shine. Either way, those moments—whether loud and playful or quiet and snuggly—are always the ones that matter most.
One of my favorite parts of these sessions is seeing how different every family is, even in the same location. Different dynamics, different connections, different little quirks—and yet they all come together so beautifully against that soft fall backdrop.
And even though each session is short, it’s more than enough time to capture a variety of family interactions.
Mini sessions are designed to be quick and easy, especially for families with young kids. When everything is planned ahead—the location, the light, the flow—it allows us to make the most of every minute without things ever feeling rushed. The result is a gallery full of genuine moments that feel natural, not forced.
Looking back at this year’s sessions, what stands out most isn’t perfect poses or perfectly behaved kids. It’s the laughter, the cuddles, the wind-blown hair, and the in-between moments that you can’t plan for. I love this part of family sessions, watching them snuggle, play, and have fun together.
That’s the beauty of fall minis.
They’re not about perfection—they’re about capturing your family exactly as you are in this season of life. And honestly, there’s no better place to do that than right here in Montana, even under a sky full of clouds. Maybe next year we will have sun, but for this year, these sessions were still absolutely perfect.
