I promised I would share photos of Pike’s Peak, and here they are! The 19 mile drive is pleasant, although at times scary, all the way to the top of Pike’s Peak here in Colorado Springs. Pike’s Peak is known as “America’s Mountain,” and it is the highest mountain in the southern Colorado area. It reaches a whopping 14,115 ft and even brags having a donut shop at the top! Getting donuts to rise at 14,000 ft is no easy feat, haha! I can definitely tell how thin the air is up there. Turning too quickly or climbing ANY stairs really made me dizzy and lightheaded, but it was worth it! Unfortunately, the donut shop closed 15 minutes prior to our arrive to the top, so I have no comment on the taste. I supposed another trip to the top is in my future!
The temperature difference between the bottom of the mountain and the top of the mountain can vary substantially, often as much as 20-30 degrees. I am also convinced that it snows at least daily at the top of the mountain because some of those snow drifts were very impressive, especially considering it was May. The views on the way up and at the top are spectacular! Savannah was not as impressed, but she was also frustrated that we would not let her run around on her own. The edge was much too close for comfort. I hope you enjoy the photos; one day I will attempt the Barr Trail that allows you to hike to the top, but for now, a car ride will have to do!
